“As far as the east is from the west, so far as
He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalms 103:12
Last month, I stopped by a local school with one of our foundation’s representatives, and the principal could not wait to talk to me about her new interests. She would like City Impact to focus on some additional areas such as attendance and grade improvements, as well as anger management and career/vocational development (sometimes these areas are a more difficult task). The principal went on to say, “You and your team have had such success in the drug and alcohol areas – we were hoping City Impact could help us tackle these other groups.”
I left the school feeling somewhat overwhelmed, but the foundation representative said to me, “Wow, that must make you feel great. This school’s administration believes that City Impact can go far beyond your expectations and I know God can assist you in meeting those needs.”
Beginning this month, programs will begin school throughout the county. I do not know in detail what my staff will experience, but I do know that some kids have been expelled from the mainstream high schools because of their on campus drug and alcohol activity, aggressive and/or violent behavior, or bringing a weapon on campus.
More importantly, they are there so God will give us the opportunity to love them, embrace them and share Christ in an incarnational way. Allow me to share a text message from one of our kids:
JUAN: “…because of that big love and dedication you have towards your job- it gets guys like me to have the biggest motivation to stay out of drugs and gangs and become someone big in life and that’s why I thank you Lama with all my heart”
My staff is geared up and ready to go – we are not quite sure what is going to happen this year – but, something incredible will happen because God is in it. Stay in tune – for the on-going progress. Please pray for my staff and the students that we will be working with this school year.
Because of Him,
Betty Alvarez Ham, President
